It’s hard to believe the puppies are almost two weeks old! Their little eyes and ears are beignning to open and soon they’ll be like entirely new creatures. But for now they are helpless little balls of fluff that grow adorably chubbier every day. Care is almost completely in Mama Lucy’s paws as she feeds them every few hours and cleans up every inch of the “den”. They still sleep 90% of the the day, their tiny bodies twitching like little bundles of popcorn as their muscles develop and strengthen. The only thing I need to do is change the whelping pad and weigh the puppies to make sure they are gaining appropriately each day. We also go through a few little exercises each day to enhance Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) - we’ll go into more detail about that in our next post.

Today I wanted to introduce our “Bluey” litter theme! If you’re not familiar with the popular Australian kid’s show about a family of blue heelers, you should be. We’re not big TV watchers because there just isn’t much worth watching these days, but we stumbled upon this show a few years ago and my youngest fell in love with it. And so did the rest of us. My oldest children will stop and enjoy and laugh over the latest Bluey episode and beg for “just one more!” (They’re only 8 minutes long). It really is a sweet program of short episodes about this family of dogs. It’s centered on strong family values and positive messages and good lessons. Combined with a little humor that everyone can enjoy it’s a winner!

The kids have been begging for a Bluey litter for the past few and, realizing the time is short for such a request, Bluey litter it is.
And so introducing the pups in birth order (FYI: Character gender does not correspond to puppy gender!)
Chili (Male)
Bandit (Male)
Bluey (Male)
Rusty (Male)
Snickers (Male)
Socks (Female)
Muffin (Female)
Bingo (Female)
And here’s a fun intro to Bluey to get you hooked ;).
