Puppy News

A LOT has happened regarding our doggy friends here on Brambly Mountain over the last few months. As you know, we brought home a stud for Lucy at the end of our cross-country trip this summer. Tutka, formerly Nicky Ray, came all the way from Texas to join our family. We were excited about his good training, his beautiful appearance and, what we really were looking for - clear genes.

Things went great! We loved his personality, he listened well, he and Lucy seemed to get along, and he was wonderful with the kids. He seemed to be adjusting well to life in our big family. We were excited about having puppies from the two of them.

However, as time went on, there were a few incidents that seemed to come out of the blue that led us to the decision not to breed him. In fact, we returned him to his original breeder a few weeks ago. It was a bit of a financial setback and certainly not what we had hoped to come from all of our efforts. And we had certainly grown pretty attached to him over the last few months. It was very sad to send him back. But Tutka was exhibiting some anxiety that was leading to some other problems, especially where younger children are concerned. It became clear he wasn’t going to work in our home any longer. In fact, it became a safety issue for our youngest child and there was no other choice but to return him.

Even though we still could have bred him before we sent him home, and taken advantage of those beautiful genes, we decided temperament was our first priority when it came to our puppies. Above appearance and clear genes, it is more important for us to breed dogs with a temperament of confidence and stability. People have been so impressed with the puppies from our last litter from Lucy and Hamish and their top reason: temperament. How well the dog adjusts to their home, their family, their lifestyle. We chose not to give that up for good genes.

And so, we have gone back to Hamish. We have LOVED his playful, happy go-lucky personality and his confidence to meet any type of situation. There is no anxiety or aggression to worry about. And because Lucy’s genes are completely clear, we can breed her with anyone. Hamish may be a carrier for a few things, but the puppies won’t exhibit any of these traits since Lucy doesn’t carry them. Hamish will be the lucky guy once again this year.

Breeding took place the first week of November. If it was successful the puppies will be born right around January 6th! If you are interested in being on our list please email us at bramblymountainfarm@gmail.com!

Lucy is kind of glad we're back down to a one dog family...
