Old-Time Scotch Collies
The Scotch Collie is truly the original farm dog. Today we can find value not only in their abilities as a working dog, but their qualities and traits lend themselves fabulously to life in the home as the family dog as well as excellent candidates as service dogs. Highly intelligent with a strong desire to please, they are easily trained for a variety of situations. As a landrace breed, our desire is not to preserve them for similarity of appearance, but instead with a focus on health, temperament, and character. Our Program
Puppy Culture is at the heart of our breeding program, along with other supplemental resources. Here's an intro to the Puppy Culture program. And if you're interested in why we chose Puppy Culture, visit our blog post here. From the moment the puppies are born they are neurologically stimulated and enrichment exercises are carefully chosen to create emotionally stable, mentally and physically strong, biddable puppies. They will be well socialized and ready for a variety of home, work, and service placements. Around 3 weeks of age we begin to introduce new objects, change the environment, introduce people (strangers, elderly, kids) and other dogs (puppy & adult) to expose the puppy to as many new experiences as possible! Here is the list! Outdoors (when weather permits), structures, climbing, touch desensitization, toys, grooming desensitization, household desensitization, socialized with other animal (farm animals, cats, dogs), manding, puppy temperament evaluation, surface and tactile stimulation, initial house training, scent introduction, and noise desensitization.
Meet Lucy
We brought Lucy home from Holbrook Homestead in SC in December 2020. She has been a dream ever since. Her quiet temperament with just enough spunk to play and keep our 7 children safe. She's never far from any of us. She prefers the outdoors and keeps a constant watch on the hillside in front of our home, overlooking the garden. The desire to help with our chickens and goats is there and we are working with her to make her an effective working dog. Her biddability and level of training at her young age far surpasses any other dog breed we have had. Intelligence and the desire to please are strong characteristics. She was a fantastic mama with her first litter and we are excited to breed her again either this Fall 2023 or Spring 2024.
