Our Story
I wanted two things when I was a little kid: To see Alaska and to live on a farm. Now before you assume that this is a story about the farm I now run in Alaska, let me tell you that I live in WNC with my husband and 7 children. However, Alaska is the place where our little farm dream came into existence. During our 8 years there, the people we met and the books we read helped form an idea for a self-sufficient homestead with healthy, organic, nontoxic food and possibly a way to make a small living off of it. We knew it would be hard, but we didn’t realize just HOW hard it would be to make it a reality. Especially with 4 kids, 3 more that came along, and a husband that worked full time to make the real money. In the fall of 2015 we found this beautiful spot in WNC, just outside of Asheville, NC. The tangled mountainside that we have slowly worked to tame into useful land we named Brambly Mountain. We dove into everything all at once - chickens, pigs, goats, geese, ducks, bees, and a multitude of edible plants. Our enthusiasm for the lifestyle knew no bounds. It fit well into our homeschool and we learned and learned and learned. Fast forward 8 years and experience has taught us a lot. We learned to whittle down to our specialities, finding what works for our family; About what we can do and what we needed to let go. We now have enough garden for just us (I realized that tending monster gardens was not for me) Spanish meat goats, honeybees, and Old-Time Scotch Collies, the most intelligent and wonderful farm and family dog there is.

We discovered this amazing breed in 2018, after losing our Great Pyrenees. After a lot of research, we decided they sounded like the perfect farm dog and purchased Lucy. We have not been disappointed. Her biddable nature is phenomenal, as well as her intelligence and desire to please.
